Dhigali Maldives - a modern and nuanced view of the Maldives

Raa Atoll, Northern Maldives. You can get there by seaplane (~45 minutes) or a domestic flight plus a boat transfer. The island is natural and lush, with its own “forest” — beautiful, but you’ll need mosquito repellent.The shoreline is lined with stone breakwaters, so swimming is only possible in the “pools” between them. Beyond the breakwaters, there’s a current, making the main pool area the only safe spot for swimming, which, by the way, is very relaxing. 

The villas are modern, white, square bungalows, positioned close to each other. They’re not the classic “Maldivian style” you might expect. The rooms are small but bright and comfortable.The hotel’s strong suit is its ultra all-inclusive package, especially when it comes to alcohol.Everything is included: the main restaurant, a la carte dining, cocktails, bars, and snacks — generous and delicious. 

The island is green with plenty of space, but the grounds aren’t perfectly clean, and there’s occasional carelessness in small details. The service is “decent” but not exceptional. Everything functions, but there’s no special warmth or attention to detail. The resort caters heavily to the Russian-speaking market, which is something to keep in mind.Dhigali is a comfortable, green island with excellent all-inclusive offerings, modern design, and a basic level of service.
